Restorative Yoga

The Lymphatic Self-Massage to maintain and restore vitality, strength, a healthy immune system and for preparing for moments of deep rest, stillness while supported by 2 bolsters, 2-4 blocks, and 5-7 blankets.

Restorative Yoga to promote and maintain vitality, health of body/mind during the colder months of winter.

Winter is also a contemplative time of year. A time for self-reflection, a time to go inward and explore that, which arises from slowing down.

Experience a sequence of Restorative Yoga postures. Supported by bolsters, blankets surrender into a conscious state of stillness, presence.

We will conclude with a few moments of journaling.

Explore your thoughts and feelings that arise from your inner stillness.

We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take

time to rest. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply

and completely.

During deep relaxation, all the organ systems of the body are beneted,

and a few of the measurable results of deep relaxation are the reduction

the increase of the "good cholesterol" levels, as well as improvement in

"Sarah is a southern transplant here in the Midwest. Originally from Alabama (Roll Tide, y’all), she completed her Master’s degree in Horticulture at KSU and currently works as a Horticulturist at the amazing Powell Gardens!

Sarah’s yoga journey began eight years ago, and it intensified with her discovery of Vinyasa Flow yoga three years ago.  Vinyasa yoga links movement and breath while blending continuous flowing transitions with specific alignment.  Sarah is certified with a 200-hour Yoga Works training and is thrilled to share her zeal for teaching at the Zen Zone!

If you attend one of Sarah’s classes, expect vigorous, athletic, and mindful movement centered around a personal intention – all  underscored by a funky soundtrack!  Namaste."

On Friday, April 11th, I had the opportunity to attend the first session of The Zen Zon'es Meditation Series. Led by Sebastian Hitzig, it was very calm, peaceful and informative. I learned meditation can be very beneficial on multiple levels, helping release stress while allowing our bodies to heal and become stronger. I’m often caught up in the perfection of meditation, worrying about ways to breathe, mantras and becoming upset when daily thoughts intrude upon a time that is supposed to be quiet. This series is about appreciating the intention to set aside time our busy lives and holding ourselves accountable by supporting one another in the weekly practice of meditation. It’s as simple as showing up once a week, breathing in and out, letting go, and quietly counting from 1 to 10; if daily thoughts or worries intrude, then one simply starts counting from one to ten again while continuing to inhale and exhale, slowly letting go of the stresses of the day and any expectations. It’s about being in the moment, and not worrying about the past, or the future. Sometimes busy schedules allow us to push the practice of meditation to the side, but this Zen Zone workshop provides us the opportunity to work it into our weekly routine, to support one another, and personally benefit on multiple physical and spiritual levels. If you have always wondered what meditation was about, or if you have needed to encouragement from others to bolster your own practice of meditation, this is a great series to attend. It is a donation-based class, and all are welcome. Join me for the next session tonight at 6 pm. Pre-register here.
