On Friday, April 11th, I had the opportunity to attend the first session of The Zen Zon'es Meditation Series. Led by Sebastian Hitzig, it was very calm, peaceful and informative. I learned meditation can be very beneficial on multiple levels, helping release stress while allowing our bodies to heal and become stronger. I’m often caught up in the perfection of meditation, worrying about ways to breathe, mantras and becoming upset when daily thoughts intrude upon a time that is supposed to be quiet. This series is about appreciating the intention to set aside time our busy lives and holding ourselves accountable by supporting one another in the weekly practice of meditation. It’s as simple as showing up once a week, breathing in and out, letting go, and quietly counting from 1 to 10; if daily thoughts or worries intrude, then one simply starts counting from one to ten again while continuing to inhale and exhale, slowly letting go of the stresses of the day and any expectations. It’s about being in the moment, and not worrying about the past, or the future. Sometimes busy schedules allow us to push the practice of meditation to the side, but this Zen Zone workshop provides us the opportunity to work it into our weekly routine, to support one another, and personally benefit on multiple physical and spiritual levels. If you have always wondered what meditation was about, or if you have needed to encouragement from others to bolster your own practice of meditation, this is a great series to attend.
